Howard Li attends Committee of 100 Global Chinese Philanthropic Dialogue (July 8th, 2016)

On July 8th, 2016, Howard Li attended at the Global Chinese Philanthropic Dialogue organized by Committee of 100, a non-profit organization of prominent Chinese Americans leaders from politics, business, media and entertainment and academia. Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, along with other world leaders also attended this event.

Howard Li and C-100 members met with Taiwan’s Leader Ma Ying-Jeou in Taibei. During the meeting with Mr. Ma, the cross-strait relations, Taiwan’s domestic, international developments issues were discussed. After the meeting, the C-100 delegation members visited Taibei National Palace Museum.

Howard Li delivers speech at ‘Tsinghua Forum of Overseas Chinese Business Leaders’ (May 23, 2013)

On the invitation of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, Howard H. Li, Chairman & CEO of Waitex Group, delivered a speech at the ‘Tsinghua Forum of Overseas Chinese Business Leaders’ in the Tsinghua main building on May 23, 2013. In the 90 minute speech, Howard Li talked about the new operational model of global supply chain. He also talked about his experience in making Waitex grow from a small office into a global group of companies in 30 years. Howard Li answered questions from the students, and encouraged the students’ diligent thinking and courage to practice. Many media sources have reported on Howard Li’s speech.

In attendance of the forum were Ren Qiliang, deputy minister of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, leaders from the Science and Technology Division of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, Tsinghua University, and hundreds of students. Committee of 100 – 22nd Annual Common Ground Conference (April 24, 2013)

The Committee of 100 convened its 22nd Annual Common Ground Conference April 24-25 in Washington, D.C. The 2013 Conference Co-Chairs were Howard Li, Theodore Wang, and Benjamin Wu.

Howard Li Attends the HK Logistics Development Overview Seminar

During the visit of Hong Kong Logistics Development Council delegation in US, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York and Hong Kong Trade Development Council held a seminar to introduce the development of Hong Kong’s logistics, on September 6, 2011 at New York Harvard Club. Howard Li, Chairman & CEO of Waitex Group attended the seminar.
The delegation introduced the Hong Kong Logistics situation and the new development. In latest China’s five year economic development plan, Hong Kong and Macau region has been listed as important international logistics center, and this plan brings Hong Kong a big business development chance.

On May 17, 2011, Hong Kong Association of New York and Howard Li / Chairman & CEO of Waitex Group co-held reception and forum to welcome “The Better Hong Kong Foundation” delegation led by the Foundation’s Executive Committee Chairman and Chairman of Hang Lung Properties Ltd Mr. Ronnie Chan. On the forum, the delegation member introduced the business development experience. Mr. Ronnie Chan especially talked about the advantage of the education in Hong Kong. The Commercial Panel held by Waitex Group discussed the development of Minority Business Enterprises

[Reported by Xiaojiang Fan from Mingpao Newspaper] The chairman of Waitex Group, Mr. Howard Li, hosted a round-table conference to discuss the issues on future growth of minority business enterprises. David Hinson, National Director of the U.S. Department of Commerceís Minority Business Development Agency, was invited to this conference.

Mr. Howard Li stated that the survival and development of minority business enterprises within the United States will need support, resources and services provided by the U.S. government.

Mr. Hinson stated that the 5.8 million companies owned by minority ethnic entrepreneurs have untapped potential, which is beneficial to American economy. The National Advisory Council of Minority Business Enterprises, directly under the U.S. Department of Commerce, has the opportunity to draw up future policies and plans, laying foundation for the future growth of Minority Business Enterprises in the United States.

Mrs. Chiling Tong, a newly appointed member of this Council, was also present at the discussion. It is necessary to provide assistance to the minor enterprises operated by minority ethnic entrepreneurs, she said. It is expected to increase the production of products of these companies through the use of technology as well. In addition, the Council will be committed to facilitate training projects on general management and usage of financial affairs in minority business enterprises.

As a representative of Asian descendants, Mrs. Tong also indicated her desire of building a bridge between Asian descendentsí companies and the U.S. government. She will introduce minority businesses to specific areas that are most desirable by the government, most promising and profitable in the future.

CIT Group Inc. began its final attempt to restructure this week, leaving many small-business customers with unanswered questions about their obligations and future relationship with the century-old commercial lender. One vendor who is staying put is Howard Li, chief executive of Waitex International Inc., a New York firm with $110 million in annual revenues that manufactures, imports and distributes clothing to department stores. He started factoring with CIT 25 years ago and calls it “the best system in the world.” Mr. Li has been following CIT’s financial plight for months and while he was uneasy at times, he’s supportive of the bankruptcy. “I’m not nervous,” he says. “I don’t know the details, but I think they will come to a good solution. Otherwise, a lot of mid- and small-sized companies will have big problems.”

Central America-Dominican Republic Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR)

From September 28 through October 4, 2008, Howard H. Li participated in a business development mission with Carlos M. Gutierrez of the United States Department of Commerce. As a delegate of this historic trip, Mr. Li visited numerous important regions in Central America with other leading executives from North American companies. World Affairs Council of America – WACA

In July 2008, WACA (World Affairs Council of America) announced Mr. Howard H. Li as a member of the board of directors. WACA is a national association with a half-million members and participants from coast to coast. Their mission statement is to promote understanding by sponsoring public programs for citizens of all ages that foster the discussion of international issues.

Earthquake Relief Efforts

On Monday, May 12, 2008, a major earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale jolted southwestern China’s Sichuan Province. Over 69,000 people were killed and more than 370,000 were injured in the tragedy. The earthquake left an estimated five million people homeless.
On Monday, May 19, 2008, Howard H. Li, former Commissioner of The President’s Advisory Commission on Asian American and Pacific Islanders, personally donated $30,000 (equivalent to HK$200,000) to the Sichuan China Earthquake Relief Fund through The Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in New York. Mr. Li presented the $30,000 donation to Ambassador Peng Keyu.
Being the CEO & Chairman of the Waitex Group, Howard Li has also encouraged thousands of his employees to help the earthquake victims – Mr. Li promises to match every dollar donated by his employees to the earthquake relief fund. Mr. Li has collected over $100,000 in donations and continues to urge everyone to continue contributing to this noble cause.

Howard Li is also responsible for the organization of multiple international carriers to provide merchandise and services for the earthquake relief efforts.
